Sound : 10
- How does it suit your music style (and what
is that style)?
- What amps and effects are you using it with?
- Is it noisy? On what settings?
- Rich/Full sound? Bright sound?
- What kind of sounds can the guitar make? How
much variety?
- Likes and dislikes?
I love the sounds - for a Far East guitar the tone
from higher output P90's is excellent.
It will do a huge range of sounds, except extreme filth, were the
P90's don't have the output.
Clean, bluesy or Classic Rock = great.
Could be a great covers-band guitar, but I love the depth of tone from
the pickups, with a little hollow ring from the Semi-Hollow body.Pick-ups
respond well to volume changes with pick, volume control adds gradual
break up to slightly overdriven amp.
Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
- How well was the guitar set-up at the
factory? (How was the action?)
- How well were the pickups adjusted?
- Properly bookmatched top? Properly routed
bridge?
- Did the guitar contain any flaws? (misaligned
bracing, poorly filed fretwire, finish flaws, poor quality wood,
rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs, poorly cut nut,
poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls, etc...)
Neck is a beauty - nicely fretted, and even.
Just needed the bridge compensation sorted, and off we go.
Vol pot a bit stiff, but not a problem now.
Switch a bit soft in action - but hey it's a bargain, and how much
does a USA switchcraft cost? Just replace it.
Reliability/Durability : 9
- Will this guitar withstand live playing?
- Does the hardware seem like it will last?
- Is the finish good enough to last, or does it
seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing?
- Are the strap buttons solid?
- Can you depend on it?
- Would you use it on a gig without a backup?
Tough guitar - The hollow sections are routed out -
not built like a 335 or Gretch. Bridge looks good. Machines are very
solid Gotoh-like.
Don't think it would suffer at regular gigs - but not had it long.
It does get admiring glances - never seen a tele thinline with p90s
and a gibson scale length, and the finish is great.
100% Reliable after 5 months - daily teaching and a few gigs.
Customer Support : 10
- Ever try and get it repaired? Was it under
warranty
- How long is the warranty
- If you've dealt with the company, how
helpful/friendly were they?
Brilliant. Designed and run by a guy called Chris
Weller, and he gets them personally manufactured in China. Sold on
Ebay- no middle men to pay!
I contacted him after purchase and he emailed to fill me in with
details and has plans for more designs - semi strat?
Lovely parts available too - woodycustom.com
Overall Rating : 10
- How long have you been playing? What other
gear do you own?
- Is there something you wish you had asked
before buying this guitar?
- If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it
again or get something else?
- What do you love about it? What do you hate?
What is your favorite feature?
- Did you compare it to other guitars? Which
ones? Why did you choose this one?
- Anything you wish it had?
- Anything else you'd like to share?
I bought this at a bargain price because I took a
chance on EBAY.
I can't believe my luck.
Now the guitar has been reviewed in OCT issue of UK Guitar Buyer
magazine who gave it 4 out of 5 and said:
Gold Stars: Great tone; Excellent Value;impressive playability
Black Marks: Logo design (could be better?)
"Theres are plenty of guitarsists who'd go to a gig with just this
guitar - and you can't say that about many sub ??200 guitars."
- If you can get one sub ??200 - BUY IT!
